Your Gift Guide for Foodie Friends

    Posted December 11, 2007
Food has never been a more popular subject!  Below find my recommended gifts for your friends who
love all things food.   Enjoy this list of gifts conveniently found in Philadelphia.

Wine Knowledge – the Wine School of Philadelphia has a variety of classes available for novices and
experts alike.  With a gift certificate, friends can redeem them for any of the classes held throughout the
year, such as Wine 101, Wines of South Africa or How to Throw a Wine Tasting Party.
Wine Class Gift Certificates (individual classes are $38 - $55 each; gift certificates are available in
denominations of $25 - $200) Wine School of Philadelphia, 2006 Fairmount Avenue www.vinology.com

BYOB accessories – With all the BYOB restaurants in Philadelphia, these reusable bags are a
convenient present.  Gift someone a terrific bottle of wine in one of these decorative wine keepers.
Choose colorful neoprene holders, or upgrade to a hard case or leather tote.  Pinot’s wine travel case
($44.95) includes two glasses, corkscrew and stopper.  Vinaferro’s generous single-bottle wine carrier
($125) is hand-crafted of premium full-grain leather, with an adjustable leather carrying strap.
    Wine totes ($ 14.95 - $200) Pinot Boutique, 227 Market Street www.pinotboutique.com

Games for Foodies - For those that like to show off their culinary knowledge, there is the Original Food
Trivia including 1800 trivia questions on beverages, geography and culture, ingredients, recipes, food
people and science.  Chocolate-opoly is a tastier version of Monopoly.  Buy favorite chocolate properties,
pay your roasting fees or get sent to Chocoholics Anonymous!

Gourmet Drinking Chocolates – Naked Chocolate Café is known for their hand made chocolates and
desserts.  They have made their mark with unique hot chocolate drinks, including a classic blend of milk
and dark chocolate and their spicy Aztec blend of rich chocolate with hints of cinnamon, cardamom and
clove!  Their famous elixir is now available in a powdered mix for convenient home use!  Get them while
    they are hot!

Specialty Olive Oils – A variety of olive oils uniquely blended for the gourmet store called Grocery.
Small batch olive oils are infused with a variety of flavors.  Choices from the tasting bar include blood
orange, meyer lemon and truffle EVOO.  Bottles can be purchased singly ($14.95 - $16.95, or choose
three oils smartly gift wrapped with a ceramic dipping dish.

Restaurant Gift Certificate –  This is still one of my favorite gifts.  For a true splurge, choose Vetri.
Since 1998, Vetri has delivered classic and contemporary Italian food with plenty of accolades.  Enjoy a
fabulous tasting menu where the chef customizes a multi course menu with seasonal ingredients.
I know there has been a lot of flack about restaurant closings and gift certificates going to waste, but I
still believe in investing in Philadelphia’s independent restaurants.  The key is for recipients to NOT save
the gift certificate in a drawer for a special anniversary!  Make dinner THE occasion!

pairings. The evening concludes with an over-the-top dessert reception and live auction.  Proceeds
benefit the American Liver Foundation of Delaware Valley.
